The Internet is many things
We can definitely agree that the Internet is a wonderful thing. At least compared to what it replaced back in the days when our country did not have the Internet and had to deal with it. If we did not have the Internet today, we would no doubt be uncomfortable, and for some things we might not be able to cope at all.Like me, you may still remember the pre-Internet days. A time when you looked for information in dictionaries, encyclopedias, and other printed books and other printed materials; a time when you had to look at paper timetables and focus hard on getting it right, not overlooking the various notes; a time when you shopped at physical stores or at best ordered items via letters sent sporadically to mail order stores A time when the only thing they did was to.
In this context, the advent of the Internet made our lives much easier. Today, we have instant access to everything, and shopping from remote locations is no problem. However, the Internet has its problems. We know that too. However, some people are better off because they were educated early on about its potential pitfalls, while others have unfortunately had to learn from their own mistakes. We know how many scams and deceptive offers are on the Internet, how many people are trying to swindle us out of our money and illusions.
But of course we must add that the Internet is not usually to blame. Sure, there are sometimes bugs that cause attackers to do things they shouldn\’t, but most of the problems are caused by us humans. Through our indiscretions, or outright stupidity, we sometimes aid and abet, and sometimes directly serve dubious entities that seek to harm us. And if they would not harm us, we could easily gain money and other benefits. And then there are those for whom doing harm at the expense of others and enriching themselves is not important. And even that is a wonderful thing on the Internet. So be careful. The Internet is both a good help and a pest. And it\’s only good if it\’s useful.
